A Panhead Story
Tom Warner is the proud owner of a 1959 Harley-Davidson FL Panhead with sidecar that he bought 2009. And he recently traced the history of the machine, creating a photo story of its heritage. That story is now the latest addition to the “Members Stories” area of the AMCA website, an area in which members can share tales of almost anything related to antique motorcycles and the people who love them.
Tom’s story begins when he bought his Panhead from its second owner, who gave him a lead on the original purchaser. Warner was able to track down that buyer, eventually uncovering a photograph published in the Harley-Davidson Enthusiast publication, showing the man and his family posing on the brand-new machine in front of the dealership in 1959. Tom only found the photograph after a two-year quest to track down every issue of the Enthusiast for that year. He discovered it on the last page of the final issue to complete that collection.
Tom was also able to reunite the original owner and his wife with their former machine while he was in the process of restoring it. Harry passed away on February 25, 2012, and Tom is pleased to maintain the bike as a tribute to him.
