Default AMA lobbying for comments to NHTSA for Automated Driving Systems

    Hi Folks:

Short and sweet this is about a link to American Motorcycle Association (AMA) and their effort to lobby support for more consideration, testing and technology to detect the presence of motorcycles in the future of vehicle driving. Automated safety features will continue to evolve and will probably only serve to make automobile drivers even less aware then they are now of motorcycles. If the automation doesn't adequately detect motorcycles, which currently it does not then it could increase risk to motorcycle riders. AMA has prepared an "Act on a Regulation" registration process that will count your voice in on supporting more tweaking of the technology so that it better detects the presence of motorcycles. Counting you in would send your name, address and email with a prepared statement to the National Highway Transportation and Safety Administration (NHTSA). NHTSA on September 15, 2017 opened a request for comments and the "Act on a Regulation" process is a well crafted statement by AMA to this end. Comment period closes on November 14, 2017 so the window is closing to have your voice heard. Obviously you can review material at NHTSA and make your own specific comments and I provide links below for that. I think this is a good idea.

I made a TinyURL for the link because original it was huge: http://tinyurl.com/motorcyclestoo
This link takes you to AMA's position which I agree with and submitted to NHTSA.

    Thanks

Even when I was a kid, I knew George Jetson was a distracted, brain addled, moron, and I would never ride an anti-gravity motorcycle in the same universe as that nincompoop; no matter how technologically advanced his cartoon space car was But seriously, the company I worked for used scanners, and proximity sensors extensively and I know they are good. . . BUT (and you can take this to the bank) if it was made, and programmed by a human, it WILL fail at some point.

thanks mike. i support the AMA and their fight against E-15 fuel, wreaking havoc on new and old motors alike. Mr. Cotten has documented the effects of this crappy fuel on many occasions here...

    With all due respect, Folks,...

    It ain't just the ethanol.

Although economics alone should have eliminated ethanol additives (if not common sense), there are also the other 150-plus Federally mandated additives that wreak havoc upon our weedwhippers, lawnmowers, and some toys of lesser importance.

I quit the AMA years ago when they lobbied the Feds to allow ATVs, and dirt bikes access to raise hell on federal lands. After that, the AMA really seemed to go pear shaped and I lost all interest in their politics.

Actually, Tom, I do have some old AMA pins, up in the attic somewhere. But, they're not that old, and neither am I . . . Yet

I don't think the designs changed over the years, Eric!

They just had a 1 or a 2 or a 3 for the number of years you were a member.
Since you have distain for the only significant national motorcyclist's rights organization, I figured I'd ask.

PS: I'm a "Charter" member, but since I don't wear pins, some are missing, probably because I gave them to my child. The AMA probably sells them outright.

There are places that ATVs, and dirt bikes should not be allowed. Tearing up pristine natural environments is not a right I will support, so I did what I still believe is right. Twist that any way you want, Tom.

    So Eric!

You really don't want those pins, right?
