    Default '53 Seat Post Springs

I am sorting through the springs for my seat post; 4 are intact and 2 are broken in multiple spots.

I am 90% confident that the 3 Cushion Springs that are below the Plunger Lock Nut are intact. Flat wire, ID 0.514, OD 0.956 & lengths 4-3/4, 4-15/16, 3.

The remaining intact spring is round wire, ID 0.645, OD 0.91 & length 2-7/16. This seems short for the Seat Post Auxiliary Spring 51778-30, but the exploded diagram shows the Seat Post Recoil Spring 51777-30 as being very short. When I assembled the seat post per page 68 of Palmer's HTRYHD vs 1, with this spring in the Seat Post Recoil Spring position, there was not enough thread left for all the hardware.

I appreciate any advise in identifying this spring as the 51777-30, 51778-30 or 51780-30, so I can search for the correct replacements. I would prefer to use the old springs rather than buy a replacement set and store 4/6 of a set indefinitely.

My advice would be to throw all those springs away and contact Colony and get a set of Croft seat springs from them. Problem solved!!!

Springs over 4" long are not original, someone replaced them, original is 3",2.4,1",3",2.75",3" top down.
Call Colony, ask if they have croft springs, some have reported vtwin springs are junk.

These are the Dave Croft seat post springs now sold by Colony. Easily recognized by the color-coded springs; Colony didn't change a thing, the springs are still colo-coded.
