    Default 1940 sport scout

Does the 1940 sport scout have skirted fenders or regular type fenders??

1940 as the first year for skirted fenders unless it was military.

1 year only for 18" tires, does not have bulge near attachment to top fender section as '41-'42

    Howdy sir,

And one year only hard tail/skirted feder SS, you can see an example of one in my post on the Chief forum at Egeburg's Indian dealership in 1941.

And then you have the '41,'42 SS with the wider transmission, wider rear hub, and all that slipper stuff like a Chief. Beautiful motorcycles, but I think I do like the 1940 SS more than the later ones.

    Howdy Eric,

Agree completely with you there. You probably recall Elmer Lower and Pete Sink bringing they're latest Indian resto's to Bike Week annually back in the 90's. One year they did painfully AMCA correct Sport Scouts (Buzz featured them in Indian Illustrated) which they rode around all week to every vintage event, I was completely smitten and came away from that encounter determined to get one. As luck would have it, Peter Heinz right here at home had an original running 41 SS unrestored he was only too glad to sell, which I thought odd till I got to his house and threw a leg over it: 2XL sized rider meets small sized motorcycle. Had to reluctantly shelve that idea.
