HD48FL, I just found this out. Schott is still hand made in Union NJ about 10 miles from me. One of there excecs takes the bus every morning with a friend of mine. It was nice to see another American family business that didn't sell out. Bob

Is Brooks leather any good? At one time it was the thing to have here in Michigan. I don't have any experience with Schott leather but have their down filled hunting gear from the 70's and it has worn like iron.

And if I may fish too,..

Does anyone have information on a Kewanee Illinois company that produced police leather up through the early '70s, and possibly for the MOCO as well?

    Thanks in advance,

PS: Not for sale. I plan to go on a diet some day.
ya gotta wear more than a t-shirt under them, fer-cryin-out-loud!
Bpth of mine are well insulated and long enough. And in winter I usually wear a (non-black) hoodie underneath. But they really do block out the wind chill.
Style be damned. Mine aren't black, but a dark brown one that includes a separate liner, and a light brown one like Dennis Hopper's, a fringe-ey. ...don't damn that one.

OLD -----Brooks leather is very good,Schott quality and maybe a bit more, I don't care for their newer leather look however.

That's awesome! My first leather jacket I bought in summer of 1984... I still have it. It still fits (if I don't put anything under it.) For the record, when I bought it, I could put a sweater under it... easy. Fortunately I have other forms of insulation now ;-)

I have several jackets now. Only leather one I wear regularly now is an A2 bomber jacket. Great riding jacket, but not very weatherproof. Nice for cool mornings.

For long rides I use technical gear... Heavily insulated, weatherproof, armored, heated. Top notch pull over rain suit. I do a lot of riding at high altitudes and have been well above the Arctic Circle on a bike. Leather stays at home!

My favorite jacket for putting around on vintage bikes is an HD cloth jacket I picked up about 7 years ago. It is rugged as heck and faded just perfectly. Fits the vintage 'style' and I took a spill while wearing it and, to my surprise, it abraded like iron. I got no rash at all. HD clothes may be spendy, but I will argue that they are made for riding, not just stylin' in parking lots. These jackets (like this and from 'similar' series they change every year) are all over eBay and usually less than $100 now. Also check local HD dealership. These 'vintage' jackets often end up in the bargain bin at the end of the season. Seems everyone wants leather with their new HD. Not cloth.

Thanks for posting the info on Schott! That's the best thing I'll read all day!

    Cheers,

    Sirhr
