Default Carter Carbs for Motorcycles 1920ies/30ies

    Hi MC friends,

does anybody have information on the different models and applications of MC carburetors made by CARTER?

I have so far seen moldels with two different air-horns - one was mounted on a Model J Harley from 1923 the other one was on a flat tank Super X.

Would be great to learn from you!

    Cheers,

My comment is anecdotal to my friend Charlie Carter. He wanted a Carter motorcycle carb for is 1919 Excelsior. He found one at Davenport and it worked great on his '19 Ex. Later he put together another late teens Ex and had found another Carter carb. It never worked properly and he couldn't get it dialed in and he was looking for a Schebler to cure the problems. He was always impressed by the simplicity of the Carter and the few moving parts but I guess there are no free lunches in this world, and carburetors are no exception.

    Hi Eric,

thank you for your nice anecdote - I think of using one of my two Carter carbs on a 1927 Super X. Will let you know when I have done a testride with it. Might need a few month as I have to do some finishing details on my bike.

gsotti, I have always liked the look of the air horn as seen in the first 3 pictures you posted.
