Thought you might enjoy looking at the inside of a 1920 Sport Twin we are restoring. Its a pretty unusual engine design for Harley Davidson, as you know just about all of their designs called for a seperate transmission. Enjoy!

Glad you liked the pictures! Its kinda of a strange engine huh? I've enjoyed putting it together. The rods are brand new, made by our great friend in England Max Nightingale of Alpha Bearings. Max also did the crank. You can't get much for these at Autozone!

What a beautiful engine. I've never seen the inside of a Sport Twin and find the crank to be quite an unusual part. Judging by the connecting rods, Max Nighengale is quite a good machinist.

Did he just regrind the journals undersized or did he build them up first with something like hard chrome or spray metal?

I've owned a Sport Model for about 16 years. When I got it I pulled the motor and removed the cylinders and found the bottom end good and tight so I only honed the cylinders and relapped the valves and have been riding it ever since with stock bore pistons and rings. It had about three sheets of newspaper for had gaskets, you could still read the words on the paper.
One problem that all Sport owners seem to have is with the clutch, I have been meaning to redesign the plates by having most of them bonded with material and therefore getting rid of them damn 132 discs. I was just wondering if you have given any thought to the clutch yet? I would be interested in some new discs if you are going to get some made up. Thanks.

Were did you find that picture? I've never seen it before. We do tons of research before we dig into a restoration, but I've never seen that pic?? Thats a really good one!
