I know this is an old thread, but I was wondering if the problem got solved? I have the exact same problem with my 42 WLA. I'm trying to figure out if it is the Springer, the wheel, or the tire. Thanks so much, Eric

For the Ride Control? If so, I have that on it. I'm starting to think I might have a tire issue. Thanks you for responding!
The bounce was a common problem on some early bigtwins from the geometry of the rake. They had to heat up the neck and bend it out a bit to stop the wobble and bounce at speed. You may be experiencing the same thing. Check your frame neck for rake if all else fails. It ay have been in a slight collision that bent the neck that’s not visible from the eye.
Looking back at the original post,he says the 1939 45" fork legs were VL rigid & knuck spring fork. They are not that, they are different lengths etc.etc.
I agree, Kitabel!
Heat bad.
Who's "they", Lenny?
...Cotten
PS: What little memory I have thinks Herbert Wagner's revolutionary "Revolutionary Motorcycles..." described the 'field' adjustment performed cold, by gently depressing the spine of the frame, like with a sledge or something.
But I can't remember where my copy went.
Its all about memory.

Palmers. Page 31: second column first paragraph.
Talks about neck angle of 28 degrees needing to be bent out to 29 degrees while running a 16 inch wheel due to high speed wobble. Thought it might relate even though he’s working with a wl.
“They” would be Harley Davidson
They would never use heat, Lenny!
Not after they went to so much trouble to oven-treat them springy.
