    Default spring fork #'s

I noticed this number on the right side of the forging on 2 spring forks I cleaned and painted.

Eric, Your fork with them # 15 has the machined in notch at the bottom of the forging, additional clearance for the steering damper on the late 46 bigtwin models. #15 with out the notch are common, I assume they were used on 45" solo and servicar machines. The factoy must have kept a second bin for the bigtwin spring forks.

Thanks Kyle. Spring forks are an interesting sub-genre of H-D history. I've always been curious about the notch in that forging and why it was never put in other forks.

Here's a few more photographic observations I made on 3 offset forks I have. The first time I saw this stamped letter, I thought someone stamped it as an I.D. After seeing different marks on 3 different forks, I tend to believe H.D. did it.
