Rear brake shoe identity

Just soring out some stuff, and I found NOS rear hydraulic shoes and lining, 1 1/4 wide, marked as 41808-58. I can't find that number in my book. Anybody know what they might be for? and what is the difference in the 41800-58 shoes w/linings for the early 1958 pressed steel drums? Are they interchangeable? Thanks.

Mike,I think the 41800-58 shoes are for the pressed steel early brake
drums and the later 58-62 cast drums take 41800-58A shoes. If I recall
the two different types were painted a different color to identify them.
Maybe the early ones were gray, can't recall for sure......Rod

My parts book says 41800-58 for the early, pressed steel drums, like you say. I just wonder if these are marked wrong, by mistake, with just a numeral copied wrong. I wonder why they couldn't be interchanged? I would think maybe just a difference in the lining composition, or would there also be a structural difference in the shoe/linng assembly? These linings are gray. Mike

Can't say for sure but, could be the part number for the .030 O/S shoes. The O/S shoes don't show up in all the parts books.

Numbers on parts are often not the part number shown in the book.

I meant gray paint on the metal part of the shoe and maybe black or nothing on
the 58A?

My book says 41805-60 for the .030 oversize. I am still wondering if the early ,58 and the later ones through '62 can be interchanged? And yes, the metal is grayish silver. But so are the later ones, so it doesn't tell me anthing right now. There have to be people who worked for, or sold HD's in this time still walking around out there Let's hope this is getting documented so in 20 or 30 or 40 years there won't be the confusion there is on the older bikes now.
