Hey there guys, I'm new here. 60yrs. old and still can't have enough motorcycles. About the BobberBuild on the home page, the kid from Ohio that won is getting an experience of a lifetime. It's so refreshing to see the a youngster take the interest in this Zen thing. And the constructive and sincere criticism and guidance from the members is a thing to be cherished. I hope this Bobber gets handed down to another generation of motornut, and the way it's being built, It'll stand the test of time. Thanx for being there everyone! --Haar from N. lower Michigan

Hope your first impressions of this club are good. What the website itself lacks in content and updated information will be greatly overshadowed by the knowledgable, friendly, helpful people you run across in the forum section. There's a wealth of experience on here and most share it readily. Although I don't think I've ever seen any information on here that identifies the average age of the club's members, I think at 60 you're right in the sweet spot!

I have aquired a 45 solo flathead titled as a 1953 Harley. I know that Harley did not make a solo 45 in 53. The engine is a G53 so I'm sure it was an earlier 45 and the engine was changed. Was this a pretty common practice in the past for these bikes?

The "G" motor is from a servicar. Few bikes running around anymore are original and the great majority are made up of different years and reproduction parts by the time they've made it to 2010. Mine is and I enjoy the heck out of it. Just ride it and have fun, you're got a lot of company.

Thanks, that makes me feel much better about the bike. I felt a little disapointed when I learned thyat the motor was from a servicar and felt I made a mistake buying it. It ran when I got it and felt it was a good deal on an older bike. Appreciate you taking the time to post for me.

I agree, there's no shame in riding an old bike put together from parts, these days. Without deep, deep pockets, it's almost the only way to break in, anymo'.
'Nother question for you, oakmal, is which trans does your 45 have? The solo trans is pretty straightforward, but the Servicar trans, (in case you got a whole Servicar drivetrain) an iron deal over the drive sprocket that sticks out several inches on the right side and it has reverse gear in it, instead of just a 3-speed. Not a big deal, either, but it's something else to know.
Parts are still plentiful for a Harley 45, as they built them 1937 up to 1974, and almost everything interchanges, so you can change parts from now 'til Saint Peter call you home, and still have "just one more thing" to do to it.
