    Default Service items?

On UNRESTORED motorcycles it is my understanding that "Service items" are allowed to not be OEM parts. Things like Plugs, Plug wires, Tires, Rubber fuel and oil lines, Light bulbs, Chains, ETC.
What if an unrestored bike has had the seat replaced with an OEM seat with the same part number, but this "Genuine" seat has one small manufacturing difference in it only visible if the seat is raised or you crawl under the bike??

I lost points on my unrestored 1969 Sportster because the sealed beam in my headlight was not the correct "guide" part. However, I know things like tires, oil lines and the like are allowed to be replaced as long as they appear correct. Example....when i replaced my oil lines i made sure to get the white writing off the hose before installing. The seat is a tough one....I would think as an unrestored bike, if you replace the seat it should be with the same type you removed. But I'm no expert on this stuff....

    HI chris,
As a field judge & according to the book we are not permitted to touch the bikes we judge.
Eyes only, therefore if the seat is not opened & looks correct looking no points would be deducted. Hope this answers your question.

The got down on their hands and knees to look at it. To my way of thinking this is a factory replacement part on an unrestored machine and should be allowed. What if an unrestored 1951 had a factory replacement cylinder cast in 1966 on it? Would it be dinged for that? It fits and works but you know it is different.
