Eric and others I apologise for being off the radar for so long but my health issues have held centre stage for quite some time and it's only now that I am starting to feel better and be able to...
Health and age are starting to take their toll and when a fellow kiwi contacted me to see if I would sell my 20 series Big X I said no but that I had the makings of a 19 Series that he may be...
Finally this list appears at the end of the United States section of Hugo Wilson's "Encyclopedia of the Motorcycle"
This list by Michael Gerald and Jim Lucas first appeared in Road Rider magazine in August 1979 and was updated in 1980
This list appeared in Easyriders magazine in the early 1990's
I've been away at our big Classic M/C race meeting and just got back, away next week for 20 plus days on my 1927 HD and Chair at the NZ National Vintage M/c Rally so sorry for not replying sooner....
I cut this ad out of some magazine and put it in a scrapbook back when I was a youngster about 60 years ago.
Other than the ad no other details were recorded by me.
There's no evidence of a front...
sswaney,
I should add that no one that I've talked to can tell me exactly when those mods were introduced.
The only thing that's known for sure is that they were 1929 only features.
Here in NZ those mods are generally credited to being JDH parts but as I've said elsewhere period photos do exist with those parts visible on JD's.
I've never found a photo of a 1929 J with those...
Sorry for the delay but I've been trying to find a picture of Matt Olsen's 1913 Sears he rode in the first Cannonball in 2010 and I can't find one.
It's reported that on a downhill section of road...
Factory mod that came out in the mid to late 1929 model run.
Very rare item that will also have the strengthened bottom castings.
There's also un-sprung weight to be considered.
What effect does the increase in un-sprung weight have on the original design of a set of un-damped front forks.
I suspect Matt Olsen's mishap in a...
6 5/8 inches
To help ID the early front brakes I took some photos of my 28 and 29 J's and a pair of I beam JDH model forks I have so it is easy to see how HD developed the front brake anchor.
HD 1 shows the 1928...
E4572 is a Triumph part number.
From memory a mid 60's Bonnie engine sprocket
A bit of quick research in Bruce Palmers book shows that internally both carbs are identical.
There are two external differences one minor but one is a major difference.
The minor one is the...
Kitabel,
Is that sort of response really necessary.
See my new thread
Steve,
Here's a picture from Nicholson's that shows the timer position in relation to the flywheel timing mark.
Hope it helps
Some of the comments here are what puts a younger person or new convert to our hobby off and maybe causes them to lose interest.
The question by Steve was to enable him to get a bike to run and as...
And three more.
It's 2.6 litre and much to Ken's disgust it's a 45 degree vee and not 42 as he would have liked.
45 gave the room that he needed to fit everything in.
His V8 motor will fit...
Somewhere on this forum I've already put up photos of this bike but here's some more
As I said I was staying with the builder of this bike and I got his ok to name and shame him here on this forum.
Ken Campbell is his name and he comes from the small village of Matakana which is...
I'd like to see a better picture of the frame.
I can't see the strengthening gussets a 1929 should have but it may just be my old eyes.
A very good mate of mine here in NZ.
I'll be staying with him tomorrow night and will ask him if he wants his name put up here.
There's quite a queue waiting to buy it should he decide to sell it...
