1955 panhead

was wanting to know standard finish on fork tins for this model,
is black painted acceptable? and were lower legs also painted?
this is not a police model. any help will be appriciated thanks

According to Bruce Palmer's book, "How To Restore Your Harley-Davidson", on page 609 he states that the standard lower legs and fork covers were painted black. If the bike came with the "Deluxe Solo Group" then it had the legs unpainted and the fork sliders polished and the fork tins stainless. Most of the '50 to '59 FL's I've seen, including my '55 FL have these parts unpainted.
