I think he is refering to Hiawatha Doodlebugs.
I know there is a Doodle Bug Club of America. I find they are located in Webster City but I don't know what state.

(~9/16/2006) Doodlebug celebrates 60 years (like Vespa but with a smaller cake)

If you wanna help eat the cake and ice cream, head over to Webster City, Iowa and check out this article from The Messenger in Fort Dodge, Iowa to get the birthday scoop:

Enthusiasts celebrate Doodlebug scooter’s 60th anniversary
By OBAID KHAWAJA, Messenger staff writer

WEBSTER CITY — Doodlebug enthusiasts got together to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the scooter Friday at the Hamilton County Fairgrounds. The reunion was organized by the Doodlebug Club of America, which is based in Webster City but has members throughout the United States.

The scooters were popular with children in the late 1940s and 1950s despite their steep price and rarity. But many who couldn’t have a Doodlebug back then are attempting to relive their youth by investing in the scooters, which can fetch $3,000 or more depending on their condition.

Thanks for all the information. The next question: The motor is 1 1/12 hp Briggs-Stratton.
Do you need to mix the gas/oil? What is the ratio? Or is it just gas?
Thanks..

Briggs and Stratton all appear to be four-cycle; no oil in the gasoling.

(you probably meant 1 1/2 hp?)
