It’s that time of year for me to renew my insurance on the couple of old bikes I own. My insurance company uses the “ current value method” for determining the amount of money they will pay in case of thief of the bikes. They simply will not insure a bike to a notarized appraisal value.
I have tried a few different agents in my area to try and find one that will insure my bikes for the amount at which they have been appraised. Some of the appraisals are from local Harley Davidson dealers.
The best company I’ve found so for uses the NADA book value for figuring the value of the bikes. Would you guys agree with these values, from NADA...?

Just for comarison, I looked at the value of the Honda CBX, of which I'm very familiar (I'm the Indiana director of the International CBX Ownwers Assoc). NADA listed the values at about half of what these bikes are bringing.
I didn't bother looking up the Henderson Deluxe. I have it insured to a stated value. My premiun is $713/yr. Ouch.

Once upon a time, my business was listed on their "advisory board";
It appears that their listings still mean nada thing.

Use one of the vintage specialist companies. They will all let you give a "stated value", and are generally much cheaper than regular insurance. Companies like Condon & Skelly, Haggerty and JC Taylor.
I have 5 bikes insured with JC Taylor, full coverage (comprehensive, collision, extra uninsured/underinsured motorist) and stated value (they are BMWs from 1928 to 1975) for about $400 in California -- a state that is certainly not known for cheap vehicle insurance rates!
Google them up.

I checked out the NADA for 1908 Harley... it is laughable. The last motor for a strap tank that changed hands was more than the "very good" price. Not sure how they come up with these figures, but I sure would like to find a complete bike in their price range!
Excellent: $121725
Very Good: $82400
Good: $52825
Fair: $40650
Poor: $30050

Very Good: $28100
Good: $18250
Fair: $13000
Poor: $8900

Thanks Darryl, Your info about JC Taylor insurance is just what I was looking for. They are very reasonably priced as well.
Silentgreyfello.... The NADA site states that the values shown on it's site are gathered using "recent auction and or reported sales." information. They also state that they would very much appreciate any input from knowledgeable individuals to help them adjust the estimates shown.
Its easy to understand why their estimates are so low. How often do any of us report the actual sale price we paid for a bike when we go to transfer the title and pay the "sales tax". Not that I have ever begrudged the tax man his share, but I've heard that it could be done. :D

Ive used the JC taylor Co. for more than 25 years they have always been the best!
That being said, the Quotes in NADA or any wheres else are just estimates and nothing more! If you go to the middle of their printed book and find a blank check you can make it out for what ever you think the MC is worth ! And some old MCs are fetching Crazy money but for the most part, most of us have "run of the mill machines" wheather we want to admit to it or not is another story !!!

Run of the mill machines but priceless to ride! I was amazed at the nada figures but after the all the money spent on hair transplants (after pulling it out during the resto) I should cover something! ;-)
