The fourth annual Concours at Serrano was held Sunday, October 7, 2007.  Serrano is an upscale community in El Dorado Hills, California, just east of Sacramento.

This Concours was  presented by Niello, Inc., an automobile sales corporation, featuring classic, vintage and exotic automobiles. Proceeds support the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.

Some months ago Fort Sutter Chapter President, Rich Hardmeyer, and I were approached by Brian Moore who invited us to put together a selection of Concours-quality antique motorcycles that would complement the automobiles present.  Brian and his wife, Michelle, head up Premier Concours Promotions and coordinate the Concours at Serrano.

We were able to gather a nice variety of bikes ranging from a 1908 Curtiss to a 1968 Vespa.  A total of 20 bikes were present, 18 of them were owned by AMCA members. We were pleased to see the motorcycles receive a good deal of attention and positive comments from the attendees.

We set up a publicity space with our AMCA Fort Sutter banner and were happy to see the entire supply of complimentary AMCA magazines picked up by curious spectators.

Rich and I had a nice conversation with, Ed Gilbertson, who was the Chief Judge for the event.  Ed is also the Chief Judge of the Pebble Beach Concours and the Antique Motorcycle Concours at Half Moon Bay. In addition to his long-standing reputation as a classic car expert and collector, he is also into motorcycles and has owned several fine examples over the years.  He encouraged the AMCA to become more involved in the Half Moon Bay event, which, he predicts will continue to grow.

Although our participation was as a special exhibit at no charge, the Concours administration included us in the awards ceremony, presenting Chapter member, Wes Allen, with the "Best Motorcycle" award for his 1908 Curtiss single-speed, V-twin beauty.

All in all it appeared that everyone had an enjoyable day displaying their motorcycles and admiring the beautiful classic automobiles at this very special event.

Thanks to all the club members and spouses who participated.

Jim Moore, Fort Sutter Chapter
