Looking across the freshly fallen snow, my mind wanders back to the
beautiful fall weekend of the past years Chesapeake Chapter
National meet. Somehow, between the hurricanes that plagued the east
coast last year, we had a perfect fall weekend. The warm days were
well suited for flea marketing activities with the morning, as usual,
being the busiest. After a full day of digging for my own treasures,
it was nice to go into the White Rose Motorcycle Clubs well
maintained clubhouse for a good home-cooked meal. While eating you
have the chance to watch the vintage motorcycle movies that play on
the clubs big screen television and visit with friends.
New this year was a technical seminar presented by John H. Pierce
of Pierce Color Write. John has earned his living as a paint trouble
shooter and has taught paint-related seminars in the automotive world.
He takes his love of antique motorcycles and his knowledge of paint
and combines them into a business he enjoys.

John
Pierce of Pierce Color Write gave a wonderful seminar on metal prep
and painting.
Thankfully, he was willing to take the time to share his knowledge
with us. The theme of the seminar was to show the participants how
to transform a rusted piece of sheet metal into a restored one with
lasting results while introducing them to proven techniques and products.
If you missed Johns seminar, give him a call at (603) 942-5610
to get a copy of his very informative seminar handout.

Saturday afternoons judging was busy with a record number of
motorcycles on the show field. The heavy turnout kept the judges occupied
right up until banquet time. The prospect of a good meal is usually
ample incentive to wrap up a difficult task. Every year the White
Rose Club members serve us a pit-cooked roast beef dinner from which
nobody goes home hungry.
For Chesapeake Chapter members, last years meet had a little
more sentimental meaning. The club had decided that the show would
be dedicated to the memory of Jack Chester, one of our honorary members
who, unfortunately, passed away last spring. If you bought one of
the meet T-shirts, you saw a picture of Jack on one of his many race
bikes. Jack rode both Indians and Harley-Davidsons and won the 50-mile
amateur Laconia race on a Harley KH. His absence will be felt by us
all. In his memory our chapter has decided to present a yearly Jack
Chester Award to any fellow member who exhibits a similar dedication
to the sport of motorcycling. This years recipient was Bob Markey
of Bobs Indian Sales, a man who has truly dedicated his life
to motorcycling. Bob Markey and Jack Chester were lifetime friends
both on and off the track. If you missed the 2005 Chesapeake Chapter
meet, try not to make that mistake again: put us on the calendar for
2006.
