QuickTime Help Page

Although Windows Media Player will attempt to play QuickTime VRs, only a still image will appear sideways. The best plugin for advanced multimedia is Apple QuickTime.

Quick, easy and free
Downloading and installing QuickTime is easy and the plug-in is free from Apple. It will work on nearly any platform, whether you're using Netscape Navigator, MS Internet Explorer or even AOL.

Go to the QuickTime website, enter your e-mail address in the box provided under the “Download software now” header and follow the directions for your system. Restart your computer. Then come back to the AMCA site and join in on the tour!

I'm having trouble with the virtual tour. Why?
I see an image that is sideways and won't move. Although Windows Media Player will attempt to play QuickTime VRs, it can't. Only a still, sideways image will appear. The right plugin for viewing our virtual museum tour is Apple QuickTime. If you download and install it, following the directions for your system, you'll be able to come back to AMCA site and join in on the tours!

But I've installed QuickTime!
If you have installed QuickTime and are still experiencing problems, ie. displays the broken QuickTime image, try the following suggested remedies:

  • Make sure you are, in fact, using QuickTime 4.0 or higher. If you're not sure, you can download the current version from Apple by clicking the QuickTime logo at the top of this page. (It's free!) Follow the installation instructions and choose to install the plug-in in ALL of the browsers (Netscape, Explorer etc.) on your computer.
  • Reinstall the QuickTime plug-in software (Macintosh or Windows) in ALL of the Internet browsers on your system. If you initially installed QuickTime the plug-in only in your Internet Explorer and then you use your Netscape Navigator, you will not be able to access the VRs, as the plug-in hasn’t been installed in that browser.

VR image half loads, then runs out of memory?
In the gray controller bar at bottom of image, click on the right hand side button and select ”Plug-in settings“. Put a check mark in the box that reads "Save Movies in Disk Cache".
